The Advantages of the LED Street Lights

Compared with the traditional high voltage sodium lamps that are widely applied nowadays, the all in one street lights have the following advantages:

All-in-one Solar Street Light

Firstly, energy saving. Now the luminescent efficiency of the white light of LED is about 80 lm/W, which can save 50% to 60% of electrical power when compared with the traditional high voltage sodium lamps. With the rapid improvement of the efficiency of LED, the semiconductor street lights show great potential in energy saving.

Secondly, low cost in maintenance. Calculated on the basis of the recent technology and testing result, the high power LED light source can work for over 10 years without being changed, however, the traditional high voltage sodium lamp should be changed every one and a half years in average, and the using of the semiconductor light source can reduce the maintenance cost greatly.

Thirdly, good performance in color rendering. The color rendering index of the LED is higher, which can be 75 to 80, which can make the ground much brighter, and make the pedestrians much more comfortable and the drivers feel safe in driving. But the spectrum of the high voltage sodium lamp is narrow and the color rendering of that is not good, which is only 20 to 40, which may make drivers and pedestrians feel dusky.

However, the LED street lights also have disadvantages, and they are:
Firstly, the luminescent efficiency should be improved. Although the luminescent efficiency of the high power white light LED in laboratory can be over 100lm/W, the luminescent efficiency of the high power white power LED in mass production with cost-effective is around 60lm/W, and the advantage of energy saving is not fully played.

Secondly, the emissivity of the ground toward the LED light is low. For the emissivity of the white power LED toward the ground or the surrounding subjects is low, the brightness of the ground is not good. And this is the disadvantage of the white light LED if compared with the yellow light of the sodium lamp.
